The Prague-Electra (or Pectra) upgrade will advance the security, scalability and performance developments made by Cancun-Deneb. Although its final program and activation date are still under discussion, Pectra is expected to be among the most radical improvements to the design of Ethereum (ETH).

Ethereum Pectra Upgrade to Replace AA and Change the Staking Game

Ethereum (ETH) developers have agreed on at least five Ethereum Improvement Proposals or EIPs that will be included in the Pectra upgrade. The list was shared by Anthony Sassano, an independent Ethereum (ETH) researcher and educator.

EIP-7702 is expected to replace Ethereum’s (ETH) current account abstraction mechanism, ERC 4337. It will advance the way Ethereum (ETH) accounts execute smart contract activity.

EIP-7594 “Peer Data Availability Sampling” will improve scaling opportunities for Ethereum L2 rollups. EIP-7251 “MaxEB” will increase the stake limit in Ethereum (ETH) PoS and introduce triggerable exits for its participants.

EIP-2537 is configured to add functionality to efficiently perform operations on the BLS12-381 curve, including BLS signature verification, according to EF’s main GitHub. deposit.

Last but not least, EIP-7549 will make consensus voting procedures more efficient by reducing the average number of pairs needed to verify consensus rules.

The Pectra hard fork should be activated in the first quarter of 2025

Sassano added that at present, the history expiration feature is being considered for inclusion in the next hard fork. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated Verkle Trees will likely be added in Osaka, the first post-Pectra hard fork.

The Ethereum (ETH) veteran concluded that his particular estimate of the Pectra activation date is Q1 2025, while in some sources community enthusiasts are also discussing Q4 2024 as a potential timeline.

As previously reported by U.Today, the Prague-Electra upgrade specifications were presented to the community in January 2024.
