Tezos Developers Introduce “Tezos X,” a Major Update to the PoS Blockchain
TezosThe self-updating proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain today unveiled “Tezos
According to the details in a blog postdevelopers envision Tezos X as an upgrade that represents a major evolution of the original Tezos blockchain. Once fully implemented, Tezos X heralds an integrated blockchain ecosystem that boasts increased performance, composability, and interoperability.
Vision of Tezos X: The Evolution of Tezos
Tezos is a smart contract blockchain platform launched after a $232 million initial coin offering (ICO) in 2017. While it failed to reach expected highs upon launch, the project remains in active development.
The new vision is to move Tezos “from a monolithic blockchain, where each blockchain node replicates everything, to a fully modular design with an integrated experience.”
According to the team of developers, a “modu-lithic” ecosystem means that the blockchain continues to be highly decentralized as specialized modules help different groups of users interact within a highly efficient environment.
In this case, Tezos
“Freeing up Tier 1 resources means everything can run faster without requiring powerful hardware to protect the network,” Tezos developers wrote.
This approach not only results in a significant increase in on-chain performance, but also improves the composability and interoperability of Tezos.
Tezos X in the works from 2022
Developers began working on massively scaling Tezos in early 2022 via Smart Rollup. This is a scaling technology that allows for an optimized and dedicated second layer to execute transactions, the L1 ensures consensus and settlement.
“Freed from the burden of having to process every transaction and calculation, L1 would become significantly faster, with even lower latency. The lighter load also means that bakers would still be able to secure the network with low-spec hardware, ensuring decentralization,” Tezos developers noted.
Also important in this mission is the level dedicated to data availability. This ensures that the Tezos mainnet can handle massive amounts of data from rollup users, all in a completely decentralized manner.
With these features, Tezos X sees a single canonical rollup that can handle all activity on the network.
The launch of Tezos X is expected to continue until 2026.
