Robert F. Kennedy Jr. speaks at Consensus 2024 on Trump and Crypto
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the candidate for president of the United States, spoke at a press conference on Thursday at Consensus 2024 in Austin, Texas. Here are some of his comments:
Donald Trump’s guilty verdict
“I’m going to talk about issues of broader concern. I want to focus on economic issues and health issues. That’s the purpose of my campaign. I’m not going to get dragged into the rubbish heap. I don’t have any ideas. I’ve been very disciplined in don’t talk about legal action against [Joe] Biden or Trump.”
Thoughts on Trump’s new pro-crypto stance
“I’m happy about it. I think it’s a good thing for our country. The commitment to cryptocurrencies is a commitment to freedom and transparency. I won’t question whether it was a political decision. I’m happy that it was done, and I hope President Biden does too.”
The biggest issues facing cryptocurrency regulation in the United States
“I think freedom of transaction is one of them. We need sovereignty over our wallets, freedom of transaction and a transparent currency. We need to make sure America remains the hub of blockchain technology. I will make sure cryptocurrency is regulated so that it protects the consumer from deceptive schemes. Since I started this campaign I have also purchased three coins for each of my children.”
What does the future hold for cryptocurrency fans?
“My goal if elected president is that cryptocurrencies are a transaction currency. That people can have freedom to transact. That people can choose whether they can buy them. I think they should be treated like a currency; we shouldn’t be taxed as capital gains. I think there are issues with how to do that. I think it should be a currency used to buy things like apples and lunches and coffee and that people can do that.
What drove him to run for president?
“I toyed with going into politics when I was younger. For two decades I took it off the table. I saw what happened during Covid and when the government shut down the economy. I thought it was wrong. The government they closed down every church, they attacked the 5th amendment, they closed down businesses without due process… they closed down jury trials, they violated prohibitions and I saw this attack on the constitution and censorship, not just me but so many people who were trying to talk and I saw it seemed so immoral for my country. All these traditional values for my party and for my country were disappearing, and I felt that I could play a unique role in showing people what it should be like. America.”
