Former President Donald Trump has chosen a running mate: Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio.

“JD has had a very successful career in technology and finance and now, during the campaign, he will focus heavily on the people he fought so brilliantly for,” Trump published on Truth Social.

Vance became a U.S. senator for Ohio in 2023, defeating former U.S. Representative Tim Ryan.

The race has attracted the attention of the cryptocurrency industry because both politicians were openly pro-cryptowith Vance criticize Cryptocurrency tax reporting requirements in President Biden’s infrastructure bill.

Vance also criticized the Canadian government’s decision to freeze the bank accounts of people involved in the 2022 Ottawa truckers’ protests.

“This is why cryptocurrencies are taking off,” he said published at the time. “The regime will cut off your access to the banks if you have the wrong policy.”

As a senator, Vance it has been circulating bill to overhaul how the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission regulate cryptocurrency markets, according to Politic.

Even the Senate’s financial communications show that Vance held between $250,000 and $100,000 in Bitcoin on Coinbase in 2022.

Trump’s decision to pick Vance as his vice presidential running mate comes two days after the former president survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Vance was competing for the position against North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.

Traditionally crypto-agnostic, Trump has recently embraced the cryptocurrency industry, meeting with executives of Bitcoin mining companies and promising to forgive Silk Road creator Ross Ulbricht, and said he will speak at Bitcoin Nashville, the biggest Bitcoin event of the year, in July.
