Ethereum Builder Consensys Buys Wallet Guard to Boost MetaMask Security

Consensys, the Ethereum-focused software developer and creator of the popular MetaMask wallet, has acquired cryptocurrency security firm Wallet Guard, the companies announced Wednesday.

The entire Wallet Guard team will join Consensys as part of the MetaMask product security team, according to a press release. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Web3 world of decentralized applications based on blockchain has seen its fair share of stolen funds Last year, users were the only ones to receive scams. Wallet Guard, which further improves scam and fraud detection through transaction validation and client-side heuristics, follows the integration of Blockaid security alerts into MetaMask last year.

“MetaMask is unique among wallets in providing not only strong security features by default, but also security-enhancing plugins through our Snaps extensibility platform,” said Patrick Berarducci, MetaMask and Infura lead at Consensys, in a statement.

Consensys has been active in the acquisition process, last year purchasing blockchain microstructure designer Special Mechanisms Group (Submachine gun) and blockchain notification service HALand firm wallet MyCrypto in 2022.
